Here's how to add a lookup field in Salesforce

  1. Navigate to Object Manager

First, open the Setup menu by clicking the gear icon, then select 'Setup'. From the Setup Home page, click on the 'Object Manager' tab to view all available objects.

  2. Select the Target Object

In the Object Manager, find and click on the specific object where you want to add the new lookup field. This will open the details page for that object.

  3. Start New Field Creation

On the object's detail page, click 'Fields & Relationships' in the left sidebar. Then, click the 'New' button to start the custom field creation process.

  4. Choose Lookup Relationship Data Type

Select 'Lookup Relationship' from the list of data types and click 'Next'. This specifies that your new field will link to another object.

  5. Define the Related Object and Field Details

Choose the object your lookup field will relate to from the dropdown. Provide a 'Field Label' and 'Field Name', then click 'Next' twice to review security and layout settings. Finally, click 'Save' to create the field.
